I am a girl
And I scream
And I cry
And I fight
For what I believe in

I am a girl
And I will scream
And I will cry
And I will fight,
But
Not for your attention

I am a girl
And you insist I need
Your approval
To scream
To cry
To fight

I am a girl
And I don’t need anyone’s approval
To scream
To cry
To fight

I am a girl
And I scream obscenely
At your misogyny

I am a girl
And I cry grievously
At your catcalls

I am a girl
And I fight maliciously
At your unwanted embrace

I am a girl

I am a girl
I’m supposed to be weak, so the man feels strong
A damsel in distress, let him fix what’s wrong
I’m supposed to play it dumb
Since society teaches that looks are more important
I can’t be proud for earning an A on a test
When my image is not the best
Looks aren’t important they say
But for a girl, looks can become everything.
Let me take a moment to validate
That the pictures of photoshopped models are fake
These images should not make up a woman’s life
Despite, these pictures are what keeps me up at night.
The skinny bodies and tall physiques
Healthy has become obsolete
Too fat,  too skinny, there’s no middle ground
Because perfect doesn’t exist
So it won’t be found
But somehow society is stringing women along
To believe that these images are the truth
And we are wrong
